Due to illness, a new review won’t be up today. Instead, we’re going to revisit Amber Argyle’s premiere novel Witch Song. There’s an ulterior motive as well: Our plan is to review the remainder of the books thus far in the series, one book in each of the following weeks. So jump into the TARDIS and travel back with us to Dec. 15, 2012… Listen to the song.
Easy as A, B, C . . . from HA
The world is changing.
For thousands of years, witch song has controlled everything from the winds to the shifting of the seasons. But not anymore. All the Witches are gone, taken captive by the dark Witch, Espen.
As the last echoes of their songs fade, Espen grows stronger as winter and summer come within the space of a day. Now she’s coming for the one she missed—a shy, untrained girl of fifteen named Brusenna.
Somehow, Brusenna has to succeed where every other Witch has failed. Find Espen. Fight her. Defeat her.
Or there won’t be anything left to save.
Amber Argyle is another Utah writer (are we sensing a theme here?). Witch Song is her debut novel and was a fun read from start to finish. I enjoyed it so much, I read the second book in the series, Witch Born, immediately afterward. I understand there’s a third novel in the series coming out in 2013*. Yes, I’ll be getting it as well.
Her writing is clean and crisp with enough description to show the scene without overburdening the reader with too much information. The story moves along at a good clip with a stop to catch your breath here and there. The characters are rich and compelling, with the evil ones really evil.
If you’re looking for a Christmas present for your teen, you can’t go wrong with this one. Or, if you’re like me and just love a good story, get a copy for yourself.
Pick up a copy locally at The King’s English bookstore or, for those of you out of town, try B&N, BaM, or Amazon. Also available in Kindle, but not Nook.
*The third novel, Witch Fall, in the series is now available. As of this posting, (3-8-14) Witch Song is currently free for the Kindle or Kindle app at Amazon. All of the novels in this series,Witch Born (#1), Witch Song (#2), Witch Rising (#2.5), and Witch Fall (#3) at Amber’s page at Amazon.
See you next time on Tips for Tuesday.
