Be grateful for that compressed, little white tablet! Aspirin is an ingredient in hundreds of over‑the‑counter remedies. It is constantly being tested for new uses. Americans first bought mass‑produced aspirin over the drug counter in the 1920’s—nearly a century ago! And, alone, Americans buy over 50 billion aspirin and aspirin‑containing tablets a year. About 20 billion or so are taken for the nagging headache. By 1980, world‑wide production approached some 70 million pounds annually.
Now, THAT’s what I’d call a POUNDING headache!
